the European Postgraduate Residency

The residency is a platform for young artists to network and a great opportunity to play and try out ideas in an abandoned and soon to be demolished building.
The participating artists will live and work for 4 weeks during August 2008 in an international group. The program includes internal group disscussion of the work, guest lectures, work presentations and a final exhibition.
The residency is located in Hoyerswerda in Eastern Germany, between Berlin, Dresden and Leipzig. The building is an abandoned apartment block, that will be demolished after the summer.
Every partcipant will have one or more apartments to use as atelier space for the project.

participants:
Age 24 - 35
graduation from a European Art- or Design Academy in 2006 - 2008
We are flexible with these numbers. If you are older, younger, graduated longer ago or did not graduate at all, feel free to apply anyways.

There are no teachers or advisors involved in the residency, so you should be able to work independently and have a sense of initative.Since the facilities are not luxurious, but rather simple, you should have an adventurous spirit and enjoy the idea of a space that does not set any borders to your project.

Projects

Artists are asked to propose in their application a rough idea of the project they want to work on during the residency.
Every medium can be used (Painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, video, photography, architecture, sound,...)
The project should have a focus on spacial intervention and since the building will be demolished, almost every spacial intervention is possible.
You are welcome to work alone or in collaboration with another artist and we also encourage applications from interdisciplinary collaborations between an artists and a professional from another field.
Your project can be everything; big, small, include social interaction, be research-based, be very simple, extremely complicated, vague or concrete.
we are open for every good idea.
Please keep in mind, that the project should be managable within the four weeks of the residency, since it will be presented in the end of August during a final exhibition.
